| Site Description: Can you provide a brief overview of the primary responsibilities and functions of your department? The Transportation Department keeps our business moving. We’re responsible for making sure materials get where they need to go—safely, on time, and efficiently. That includes deliveries to customers as well as transfers between our locations. Our team works with over 40 contractors and more than 120 drivers to handle around 40,000 truck loads every year. We plan routes, manage schedules, and coordinate closely with other departments to keep things running smoothly across the entire network. Everything we do helps support strong service and reliable operations. Key Personnel: Matt Brennan – Logistics and Safety Manager Nicole Brockway – Logistics Planner Commercial drivers – Dave Nagle, Chris Horn, Paul Schab, Mike McCabe, DJ Frazier, Kendrick Scott, Ron Pokorny (Flatbed) Single Axle drivers – Joe Lattanzi, Daron Rowley, Julius Harrington, Shatauna Cowen, Landon Aliff, Brent Harris, Doc Carlyle, Ryan Ritchie, Donald Davis Share interesting or unique details about your team members (hobbies, achievements, etc.) / Are there any interesting or fun facts about your department that people might not know? Since 2022, we’ve moved over 2.5 million yards of material out of our production yards. That’s enough to: 🚜 Cover more than 470 football fields one foot deep — or — 🛣️ Pave a two-lane road from New York City to Chicago with gravel or mulch! And here’s a weight comparison just for fun: A single-axle delivery can carry material weighing as much as 2.5 average passenger cars, A fully loaded semi can haul the equivalent weight of 20 cars –Multiply that by 40,000 truckloads a year… and that’s a lot of horsepower! What are the upcoming goals and priorities for your department in the next quarter or year? Our focus is on supporting sales growth while running a safe, efficient operation. Key priorities include: Maximizing delivery capacity to meet growing demand Improving efficiency through better routing and coordination Reducing errors by streamlining processes Minimizing safety incidents through training and proactive checks We’re committed to moving more material, more efficiently—safely and reliably. Are there any strategic initiatives that your team is excited to work on? We’re focused on increasing efficiency through smarter hauling strategies—specifically by expanding our use of backhauls and heavy hauls. A key part of this is upgrading our older dump trailers with newer, larger trailers that can handle heavier loads. Environmental Initiatives: Share any environmentally friendly practices or initiatives your site has implemented. We’re cutting empty miles with optimized routing and testing split-board trucks to reduce total miles driven—helping lower fuel use and emissions. |
