A Message from our President, Matt Malone
Team
As we head into November, I want to start by saying thank you. We just wrapped up a strategic planning session with the Senior Leadership Team and I am really encouraged by the work that came out of it. The ideas, the discussions, and the direction all reflect the kind of company we want to be going forward.
I also want to thank everyone who took time to give feedback ahead of that session. A lot of what we talked about and built into the plan came directly from what you told us. Your input matters and you are helping shape where we go next.
We are now finishing up that plan and tightening up our priorities for 2026. Once it is finalized we will be sharing it with the full team so everyone understands where we are headed and how their work connects to it.
Looking at where we are today it is clear that everyone’s strong effort is still showing up in the results. We closed Q3 strong. Stores, Production, Transportation, and Projects are all contributing. We are seeing growth, and we are continuing to improve how we serve customers. On top of that we are preparing for winter and setting ourselves up to start next year strong.
As we move into the last part of the year I am asking everyone to stay focused on three things. Keep communicating. Keep taking care of our customers. Keep taking care of each other. The rest will follow.
Thank you again for everything you do every day
Matt Malone

Finance, Ryan Caruso
Q3 finished very strong, adding to our continued success of 2025!
Last September closed with a loss, but this year we finished positive, more than twice as strong.
Year-to-Date highlights:
- YTD Sales are up 30%
- Gross Margins are up 59%
- Gross Profit is up over 5-points
- Bottom Line has more than double
Projects have championed our year-to-date success, but September’s success is around our core business.
Both Stores and Production saw gains in Sales, Margin and Net Income in for the month. Stores are now ahead in all three categories.
We’ve also continued our focus on reducing Landfilllosses. September alone accounted for half of the overall year-to-date reduction.
As we move into Q4, we anticipate some seasonal losses, but our projections still have us outperforming last year. Even if we matched last year’s Q4 results, we are on track to finish two to three times better overall.
We’ve finished the first three quarters extremely strong. This performance is the direct results of focus, effort and dedication our team brings every day. Let’s keep this momentum going through Q4!

October at KB: Staying Ready for Anything
October is always an unpredictable month in the landscape and construction industry. One day, we’re shipping soil and fill materials — the next, it’s salt, leaves, yard waste, or dirt coming off construction projects. Our sales team sees it all, sometimes sending out multiple loads of soil and salt at the same time.
That flexibility is what defines KB. Customer needs always come first, and our superior service and prompt deliveries make it easy for our customers to pick up the phone and call us again.
Current Projects
Here are just a few of the jobs keeping our team busy this fall:
- ODOT I-90
- Bedford Schools
- Solon Recreation Center
- Middleburg Heights – Burlington Coat Factory Demo
- Amazon – Louisville
- Irish Town Bend
- Cleveland Builds – Rooftop Mix
- Davey Tree – Kent
- Infield Mix and Playground Mulch deliveries to various cities
Teamwork That Shows
Every fall, we visit our distributors to review the season and gather feedback. We’re proud to report overwhelmingly positive comments about both quality and service this year.
A big thank-you to our Production and Transportation teams — your hard work makes everything we do possible!
Looking Ahead
Commercial landscapers, utility contractors, and general contractors are always our focus for Winter Lunch and Learns, with several already scheduled for November and December. These sessions are a great opportunity to share updates, strengthen relationships, and prepare for the season ahead.
Winter is also the perfect time to analyze, refresh, and strengthen relationship selling. Pick up the phone and reconnect with a customer you haven’t spoken to in a while — there’s always something new to learn.
Final Thought
Our customers are the fuel that feeds the revenue furnace — and every call, delivery, and connection keeps that fire burning strong.

Production Updates
We’re keeping busy across all sites!
- Soil production is still going strong wherever it’s needed.
- Bridgeview is hard at work grinding the first grind.
- North Canton just wrapped up grinding yard waste — great job, team!
- Big 4 is mixing up some winter blend soil to get ahead of the season.
- Avon will kick off first grind next week.
- And starting Monday, October 27th, we’ll begin receiving ash from the Sewer District.
Lots happening as we head into the colder months — great teamwork, everyone!
Logistics + Safety, Matt Brennan
Transportation wrapped up a productive October, moving nearly 3000 loads across the network — totaling an estimated 92,000 yards of material. We’ve officially finished hauling KB Bio sludge and kicked off shipping material to Scotts, adding another strong partnership to our list. The team also wrapped up our first season hauling manure for Urban Organics out of the Thistledown racetrack, with the stables nearly cleaned out — marking the close of a very successful new relationship. As we head into late fall, operations are slowing slightly, but we’re preparing for winter salt hauling as forecasts point toward a colder, snowier season for Northeast Ohio, with the Great Lakes region expected to see above-average precipitation and strong lake-effect snow potential.

🌟 October Growth & Goals Update!
Exciting things are happening across all locations!
Willowick has received their new building, and we’re thrilled to see the transformation taking shape. Even more impressive — they’ve just hit a major benchmark in hardscape sales, reaching $500K, and patio season isn’t over yet!
Broadview is scheduled to receive their new building the week of November 4th. Even without a building, Broadview has had an amazing month — just a guy and his tablet! He’s sold 300 yards of soil, 185 yards of mulch, and various aggregates, while also bringing in 2,000 yards of leaves — all while the production team was still clearing the site!
🏆 Goals, Goals, Goals!!
Despite a wet spring, Valley View was the only store to hit their mulch sales goal — and they didn’t just meet it, they crushed it! Their goal was 10% over last year, and they surpassed it with an impressive 16,380 yards sold.
Nearly every store with a natural stone goal has met or exceeded it — and these were some pretty aggressive targets!
New customer acquisition continues to grow, now at 118% — amazing job, everyone!
And let’s not forget Strongsville, where soil sales are up a remarkable 225% over last year!
❄️ Winter Is Coming!
With winter knocking on the door, we’ve already sold over 3,000 more bags of salt year-to-date compared to last year! Shaping up to be a wild one! 😊

Marketing, Traci Ward
As we move into our off-season companywide, it’s officially busy season in Marketing! This time of year, I’m meeting with our agencies and vendors, building our 2026 strategy, and reviewing everything we’ve done this past year—what worked, what didn’t, and how we can keep improving.
Our website rebuild is entering the home stretch, with an anticipated go-live date of January 13th! The next two months will be critical as we get everything “camera ready.” Here’s a sneak peek of what’s coming your way:
- Geographically tailored shopping for a more localized experience
- Advanced B2B functionality, including online ordering for all truck types
- Automated truck capacity planning (no more orders rolling in when we’re at capacity!)
- Easy pay options, including ACH
- A more transparent and robust customer account view
…and so much more! I’m looking forward to what 2026 has in store!
