Leadership Update – September 2026

September is always a transition point in our business. The busiest part of the landscape season is beginning to slow, fall projects are underway, and we are already preparing for winter. It is also a good time to look at where we stand and what we need to accomplish over the final three months of the year.

August was a challenging month. Wet weather impacted our results, and the continued losses at the Landfill remain our biggest financial challenge. At the same time, there are important positives underneath those numbers. Excluding the Landfill, our Net Income would be 17% ahead of budget year to date. Production continues to perform extremely well, our projects remain ahead of budget for the year, and there are still significant opportunities in front of us.

I continue to be encouraged by the diversity of our business. This year has brought challenges from the salt shortage and weather to the Landfill, but other parts of the company have continued to perform and create new opportunities. We are supplying materials to major projects across Northeast Ohio, while our sediment recycling and beneficial reuse work continues to grow. That diversity is a big part of what makes Kurtz Bros. unique and gives me confidence in where we are headed.

As we enter the fourth quarter, our focus needs to remain on execution. There is still business to capture, projects to complete, customers to take care of, and preparations to make for winter. We also have an opportunity to learn from what worked this season and what did not so we can continue getting better.

October will also bring Wellness Month, and I encourage everyone to participate. We spend a lot of time taking care of our customers and our business, but taking care of ourselves matters too. I hope everyone finds a way to get involved.

We have accomplished a lot in 2026, and we know there is work left to do. We cannot control every challenge that comes our way, but we can control how we respond. Let’s stay focused, support one another, and finish 2026 as strong as we can.

Thank you for everything you continue to do.
