Performance Update – October 2026

September Update:

As summer comes to a close, our overall numbers don’t fully reflect some of the positive performance we’ve seen throughout the month and year.

Actual vs BudgetSeptemberYTD
Sales↑ 10%↑ 2%
Gross Profit↓ 24%↓ 7%
Gross Margin↓ 7.7 pts↓ 1.9 pts
Net Income↓ 66%↓ 27%

The Landfill continues to be the biggest driver of our budget shortfall, with losses running approximately 2.5x the amount planned.  However, when we remove the Landfill from the equation, our YTD performance tells a much different story.

Excluding Landfill:Actual vs BudgetYTD
Sales↑ 2%
Gross Profit↑ 9%
Gross Margin↑ 1.4 pts
Net Income↑ 12%

Store sales are 6% behind budget for the year, and most impactful hits are Winter, Colored Mulch, Organics and Misc.  Topsoil has performed well, but not enough to offset these short falls.

Production continues to be a bright spot despite revenue slipping slightly behind budget.  Production net income improved and is currently 8% of sales, compared to a budgeted loss of 2%.  Increased sales have contributed to the improvement, but the biggest driver continues to be lower mulch costs as we continue to benefit from a large inflow of free fiber.

Project had a strong September, with revenue, margins and net income all showing solid gains, putting us further ahead of budget YTD.

September brought a mix of challenges and successes, but there are plenty of positives to build on.  As sales begin got slow during the fall months, it’s important that we stay focused on the areas we can control and continue to make the most of the opportunities ahead.

We are in the final stretch of the year, so let’s keep up the momentum and finish strong!
