Commercial Sales Update – October 2026

Preparing for the Season Ahead

Fall in Ohio is one of the most beautiful times of the year. As the trees change colors, we see one season coming to an end and another just around the corner. Landscape and construction projects are still moving forward as winter approaches, with many working to wrap things up before the snow flies or the end of the year arrives.

Salt sales are also starting to pick up. Last year’s shortages created concerns for many customers in the private sector, including hospitals, nursing homes, pharmacies, schools, and shopping centers. No one wants a repeat of last winter, so we are working hard to secure as much salt as possible to help meet our customers’ needs.

ODOT continues to repair existing roads and build new ones, providing a significant portion of our project backlog for the remainder of 2026.

We recently hosted the October meeting of the Municipal Engineers Association of Northeast Ohio at the Kurtz main office. We provided lunch and presented on soil testing and how we turn “Waste into Resource.” More than 50 members representing 16 engineering firms attended. It was a great turnout, and the presentation was well received!

Our Sales Team continues to pursue new opportunities and work on several exciting projects, including the new Huntington Field Browns Stadium, the Cleveland Museum of Art expansion, Aurora Park, Bunts Road, Main Street in Akron, Brainard Road in Glenwillow, the Solon Recreation Center, and projects in Canton and Massillon.

Our distributors, like our stores, are also preparing for winter. Some are closing for the season, while others are getting ready for the busy months ahead and gearing up for salt sales.

Now is the time to focus on building new business. As you travel around, keep an eye out for new construction sites and potential customers. Take the time to put together a presentation tailored to those opportunities and, whenever possible, make that first connection in person. It’s also a good time to revisit customers who haven’t purchased from us in a while. Reach out, reconnect, and find out how we can help. Keep a list of your prospects and track your follow-ups so opportunities don’t get overlooked.

New customers bring additional revenue and help move the numbers on our scoreboard in the right direction. But remember, every customer is more than a sale — each one is a relationship we can continue to build.

Sales feed the furnace of every business!
